Lucknow | Lucknow Police have arrested three men in connection with the murder and robbery of a 74-year-old woman in the Jankipuram area. The case, which had sparked concern across the locality, saw swift action with multiple police teams formed to investigate the incident.
According to officials, on December 3, Neela Srivastava, aged 74, was found dead inside her residence in Sector-J, Jankipuram. Following a complaint lodged by her family, the police began an intensive probe. A joint investigation team comprising the Forensic Unit, Crime Team, and Surveillance Unit examined the crime scene, scrutinised CCTV footage, and worked closely with local informants to trace the suspects.
Based on these inputs, police arrested three accused — Jitendra Mishra, Deepak Kumar alias Deepu, and Sushil Kumar. During interrogation, the trio confessed their involvement in the crime. They revealed that they used to visit the victim’s house for religious rituals and exploited the familiarity to execute the robbery-murder for financial gain.
Police recovered several items from the accused, including cash, jewellery, artificial metal bangles, bracelets, clothing, and other stolen belongings. Officials confirmed that the case is being pursued under Sections 331(8)/317(2)/3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Authorities said that teams from Jankipuram Police Station, the Crime/Surveillance Wing, and the Police Commissionerate Crime Unit played a crucial role in cracking the case. The accused have been sent to judicial custody, and further investigation is underway to determine if they are linked to other similar offences.
The incident has once again raised concerns about crimes targeting senior citizens, prompting the police to urge residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities immediately.
